WashPo's Mike Gerson: Boo Hoo, Big Media's Dying

MSM BOO HOO of the DAY: Journalism's slow, sad death

M. Gerson of the Washington Post sheds a tear for the impending death of dinosaur media. He points to the Internet as the cause of death, but that's just a symptom. The death of trust in the Mouthpiece Media had to occur first--and Big Media worked hard and long to kill it.

Gerson's employer exhibited its "commitment" to "journalism" by substituting cheer-leading for reporting during the 2008 campaign. One reason Gerson might be so glum is the awful reality that the press owns Barack Obama, just as surely as Obama now owns the recession. There's no separating the two.

Big Media doesn't understand the Internet very well and that has contributed to its death spiral. Instead of accepting the millions of hits sent their way on their stories (and the ads that accompany them), the AP is suing the hand that could feed them. Not sure what the word for it is in the hallowed halls of "journalism", but from a New Media viewpoint, I'd call it "stupid".

Gerson's main complaint is that not enough readers agree with the Mainstream Media's viewpoint:

Cable and the Internet now allow Americans, if they choose, to get their information entirely from sources that agree with them -- sources that reinforce and exaggerate their political predispositions.
Guess there's just not enough big city, elite, leftist, Big Government-loving Americans out there to support the NY Times editorial board in the style to which they've become accustomed.

Gerson whines about blogs linking to news sites, ["And the whole system is based on a kind of intellectual theft."] but he says nothing of the use of the blogosphere by Big Media as a sort of unpaid and unattributed research unit. At least the blogs are linking and attributing. When the Times of London lifted quotes last year from DBKP's interview with David Perel of the National Enquirer, they neither responded to our emails or corrected their thievery.

From listening to the tales of fellow bloggers, it's not a rare happening.

NOT ALL newspapers are dying; big city dailies are certainly on the endangered list, especially LIBERAL big city "newspapers" who filter the news through an snobbishly-elite progressive PoV. This writer still buys both the morning and evening editions of the local paper. But those papers have a conservative viewpoint--like the majority of its readers.

Other readers are not so lucky. Most big city readers are trapped with a newspaper that seems more intent on preaching Progressiveness, than reporting the news. Now that their readers have other choices, those like Gerson cry when they can no longer shove their PCBS down the throats of a captive audience. Better they had done their crying when their papers blacked out news readers deserved to know.

Readers turned to the Internet because where else were they to find news of the John Edwards scandal for 10 months? Not in Gershon's WashPo. Currently, ClimateGate is big and it's being covered--on Russian TV and Fox News and in the papers of the UK.

Gerson puts down the "birthers". Did WashPo deign to do any digging on this issue? No, it didn't. It recycled what other MSM organizations said about it. Talk about second-hand news. That makes the Washington Post less informed--and more expensive--than many of the blogs Gerson whines about.

Who wants to pay for that?

Meanwhile, Americans still are getting their news blacked out by their "journalistic" betters. Gerson weeps that those potential readers will no longer pay for the privilege of being kept in the dark.

We'll say the same thing we said when not one reporter asked a presidential candidate about his mistress and the massive coverup that ensued: "Do your damn job." Because newspapers like Gerson's didn't do that job, readers turned to other sources which did.

They won't do their jobs and they cry like babies when they no longer can make a profit from the practice. Paraphrasing a saying from the Soviet Union, "They pretend to report and we pretend to pay them for it."

Good riddance--both to the elite smugness of the MSM and to its apologists like Michael Gerson.

White House Turkey Pardon Ceremony Goes Bad

CHAOS!

Freedom Fighters Interrupt White House Turkey Photo Op

Nationwide Search for Suspects

The scene: the White House. The time: immediately before President Obama conducts the annual pardoning of the Thanksgiving turkey. A tradition that's 60-years-old.

Suddenly, chaos!
Armed fighters from the Turkeys United For Freedom (TUFF) crash the photo op! Taken by surprise, the Secret Service agents are no match for these motivated, well-armed turkeys. They free their brother from what TUFF has called, "a White House show trial".

Our plucky president is concerned.

President Obama quickly goes in front of the still-rolling TV cameras to address a shaken nation.

"Good afternoon. I'd like to give a shout out to the Indians who helped the Pilgrims almost 300 years ago. Without their help, I don't see how it's possible that I would be here today speaking to you. I want to tell you all that I'm unhurt. I also want to assure the nation that we will not rest until these perpetrators are brought to justice. I would caution everyone not to jump to any conclusions.

But Karl Rove did this."

The former Bush chief-of-staff was quickly rounded up. But Rove had an airtight alibi: at the time of the "Turkey Incident", he'd been stealing money from poor people and promoting fascism.

And he had witnesses: hundreds of liberal bloggers had already written about it.

Now, the president was really concerned.>

President Obama tried to convince his advisors that he need 6-8 months to make another decision on this matter.

Then David Axelrod bravely stepped up. "I'm afraid that the American public demands that you act now, Mr. President. I've talked with the Mainstream Press and we know who's responsible."

"We think Sarah Palin is guilty.

I'd advise you capture her immediately before anything else happens."

Police across the country searched the most likely places first.

No luck.

The search intensified to other likely locations the suspect might be found.

Within hours, Tea Party protesters had mobilized in Palin's defense.

They found an unlikely ally: PETA joined the battle.

But the moose lobby came out squarely behind the President. "We've always known that Sarah Palin is a clear and present danger."

Then, TUFF issued a provocative statement. "Turkeys will not rest unless amends are made for the senseless Thanksgiving slaughter. We await the President's reply."

In the end, President Obama found the proper solution. Sarah Palin was exonerated. The tea party protesters went home. PETA was pleased. TUFF was appeased. And the President didn't miss a beat.

Thanksgiving 2009 was a holiday
everyone would remember!

Sarah Palin: Going Rogue in Washington PA - pictures

HUGE CROWD LINES UP TO SEE SARAH PALIN, GET BOOKS SIGNED

AT Least Six States Represented in the Crowd
--And at least one hockey mom...

Sarah Palin Going Rogue book tour
Washington PA, November 21, 2009
DBKP Pictures from the tour stop -1

Sarah Palin's "Going Rogue" book tour came to Washington, PA and folks from at least six states were there to greet her. DBKP was there too and got some pictures--five pages of them, to be exact.

We took more, but we promised some folks in the crowd that we'd have these up by Saturday night. Just from our own observations, it seemed like slightly more women were present than men, which would seem to contradict those who say that Sarah Palin's main appeal is sexual.

But we didn't take a census. Readers can scan the photos on the following pages and see if they come to a different conclusion as to the gender breakdown. The people we talked to seemed to be having a good time--even the ones who'd been waiting in line for 17 hours.

No cameras were allowed inside the book signing and it was doubtful this writer would have gotten in--too busy taking pictures and getting shooed away from the Palin tour bus when it arrived. But even the police doing the shoo-ing were nice enough--as was everyone we came in contact with in the crowd.

Here's five pages of pictures from the event before they took it in-doors.

Click the enlarged image a 2nd time to enlarge even more.

Washington PA welcomes Sarah Palin's "Going Rogue" book tour to its stop at the local Sam's Club.

The crowd continued to grow. The local police said that the first arrivals began showing up on Friday at around 4 pm. One officer said that the "better part of our force" was at the event for traffic control. Not much crowd control was needed.

The day was cool, clear and sunny--a perfect day for standing in line and talking to like-minded people from at least six states. We spoke with people in the crowd from PA, OH, WV, VA, MD, and SC.

The crowd would no doubt have been surprised that they are "dangerous to America"--the words from the DNC (and formerly Obama's) Organizing for America. From Obama group attacks Palin to fundraise:

President Obama’s political operation took a shot at Sarah Palin today, accusing her of lying on her media blitz. “It’s dangerous,” Organizing for America Director Mitch Stewart said of Palin’s book tour. …
The crowd continues to grow. It's around 9 o'clock and the arrival of Sarah Palin is still about 2 hours away. One police officer remarked, "Some of these people are crazy. They think they are going to show up now [at 10 am] and get a parking spot. That's just crazy."

These women were not shy on the subject of sitting down and not rocking the boat. Their shirts said it all.

The backs of these ladies' shirts are just as emphatic.

NOTE: The Thomas Jefferson quote on the back of their shirts read, "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent".

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama campaigned across America this past week and both landed in Charleston, WV one day apart. Rampagin' Rodney Parsons caught both of them in action in WV's capital city: Clinton on the 19th, Obama, the next day. RP got some great "candid" shots, starting with the one above.

Ginn says, "This pic is begging--begging, I tell you!--for a caption!!!"

Caption the above photo by leaving your suggestion in the comments after the CaptionFest story at DBKP.com.

Deadline is Tuesday at midnight. Decision of the judges is final and we'll print the winning caption on Wednesday. We'll watermark the winning caption and author on the pic as a prize.

Sadaam Doppelganger: How to Hypnotize Italian Women Out of Their Cash

Saddam Look-Alike Hypnotizes a Suggestible Italian Clerk out of cash
They say he looks like a combination of Rasputin and Saddam Hussein and that he is able to hypnotize checkout girls into giving him cash, in other words, a mesmerizing robber now hunted by the Italian police.
Rasputin-Saddam Hypnotist (wearing a scruffy gray charcoal corduroy suit)
In the world of hypnosis there are subjects who are deemed more "suggestible" to the hypnotist. We wondered what criteria the man wanted by the Italian police used to scope out his potential targets and just how was he able to "hypnotize" these women into handing over the cash in their supermarket drawer. Ron Paul Fights to Move GOP to the Right

Just like Ronald Reagan did in the years from 1968 to 1980, Ron Paul's organization is building itself into a force to move the GOP back to the right. And many of the people contributing to the effort are volunteers who are donating their time and talents to the cause. A group of independent artists have contributed their talents to a project that rendered Congressman Ron Paul into a 3-D animation. They're hoping that their video project, a 60-second commerial entitled, "The High Tide", is able to be aired before the Pennsylvania primary.
The High Tide is not just about Presidential candidate Ron Paul, but about the idea of returning America back to it's founding principles of freedom and liberty.
A small group of dedicated grassroots artists have created a new 60 second promo/TV ad for Presidential candidate Ron Paul, entitled "The High Tide". The ad combines carefully edited audio from various Ron Paul speeches with high end computer animation, motion graphics, and a moving musical score, into a unique presentation that is reaching new eyes and reinvigorating the dedicated Ron Paul grassroots. Serving as lead animator, Arcfx's Nathan Evans conceptualized the project and reached out to various grassroots activists, tapping into individual creative talents the Ron Paul Revolution is famous for. Coming in early on, Ron Paul CNN/Youtube ad competition winner Chris Rye (AdamT from RonPaulForums.com) built the audio from famous speeches given at the Robert A. Taft Club and the Ann Arbor, Michigan rally where Ron Paul drew a crowd of over 2000.
IN OTHER RON PAUL NEWS: Ron Paul's supporters are taking a page from the Barry Goldwater/Ronald Reagan history books: they're continuing to build a grassroots organization to fight for the soul of the Republican Party. Reagan, first campaigned in 1968 and later in 1978, losing to Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. But in the process, he assembled the organization that later propelled him to a historic victory against Jimmy Carter in 1980.
Rep. Ron Paul of Texas and his thousands of fervent supporters may be fighting more over the soul of the Republican Party nowadays than they are for the actual presidential nomination, No it's not your eyes It's Republican presidential candidate and House member Ron Paul on a giant TV screen in Killeen Texas a GOP House of Representatives member from Texas who continues to campaign against Sen John McCain. Paul reported his campaign finances March 19, 2008 having raised nearly $35 million with nearly $5.6 million cash on hand and like a good conservative no debts. Seeeing how the congressman is more than 1,000 delegates shy of what he'd need to head the ticket.
With John McCain having already secured the nomination--and having left the country--Paul supporters are actively continuing the campaign for the next election, whether Paul actually runs again or not.
The 72-year-old Paul has plenty of free political time now because no Democrat, not even in Texas, is dumb enough to take him on in the November House election, which will award Paul his 11th term. On March 4, Paul vanquished his main Republican challenger in the 14th District by capturing 70% of the vote. Other than that, it was close. Paul says he'll continue to take his conservative message of smaller government, more personal freedoms and an end to American troops abroad wherever his followers are strong and loyal, places like Pennsylvania, North Carolina, maybe Idaho. But they're actually all over, even allegedly liberal California, where one branch posed nearly-naked for a Hotties4RonPaul pinup calendar.
Other Paul supporters have chipped in with a music video, while others have contributed the above 3-D animation commercial project. Ron Paul's organization is doing it the Reagan way: building an organization, one county at a time across the country. And they're finding plenty of people who feel the two main parties are not listening to them.
As noted here earlier this week, Paul's volunteers are winning GOP influence the old-fashioned way, at the grassroots level county by county, tedious meeting after tedious meeting, largely under the radar of the national media, except The Ticket. Paul's volunteers, many of them new to politics, hope to exert some influence on the platform in St. Paul and go from there, the way the 1964 Goldwater generation of conservatives finally won in 1980 with Ronald Reagan.

Barack Obama, Jim Crow and the Democrats

During a speech yesterday at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia Senator Barack Obama confronted head-on the issues surrounding the recent revelations of the statements the long time minister of his church and former mentor had made about 9/11 and how blacks should "damn" America for its "continuing mistreatment of them". Senator Obama's speech was both powerful and eloquent as he strove to explain and defend his 20 year relationship with the now retired minister of Trinity United Church of Christ, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, tying it to the still lingering cause and effect of the segregationist or Jim Crow laws enacted during the late 1800's. Last week a firestorm of controversy erupted around Senator Obama after the MSM reported some of what the Reverend Wright had been preaching from his pulpit at Trinity United Church of Christ on the south side of Chicago, the same church Senator Barack Obama and his family have been members of for 20 years. The Reverend had married Senator Obama and his wife, Michelle, baptized their children and the Senator "credited" Wright for the title of his book, "The Audacity of Hope". From ABCNews:
Sen. Barack Obama's pastor says blacks should not sing "God Bless America" but "God damn America."
"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people," he said in a 2003 sermon. "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."
In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism. "We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001. "We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost," he told his congregation.
One of the questions aimed squarely at Senator Obama was whether he had heard the remarks made by Wright and if so, did he agree.
Did I know him to be an occasionally fierce critic of American domestic and foreign policy? Of course. Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes. Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely -- just as I'm sure many of you have heard remarks from your pastors, priests or rabbis with which you strongly disagreed.
Obama went on to call the Reverend's remarks "divisive" and a "distorted view of America".
But the remarks that have caused this recent firestorm weren't simply controversial. They weren't simply a religious leader's effort to speak out against perceived injustice. Instead, they expressed a profoundly distorted view of this country -- a view that sees white racism as endemic, and that elevates what is wrong with America above all that we know is right with America, a view that sees the conflicts in the Middle East as rooted primarily in the actions of stalwart allies like Israel, instead of emanating from the perverse and hateful ideologies of radical Islam. As such, Rev. Wright's comments were not only wrong but divisive, divisive at a time when we need unity; racially charged at a time when we need to come together to solve a set of monumental problems -- two wars, a terrorist threat, a falling economy, a chronic health care crisis and potentially devastating climate change; problems that are neither black or white or Latino or Asian, but rather problems that confront us all.
While Obama roundly condemned Wright's remarks as divisive and distorted he also defended the Reverend, calling him the man who had introduced the Senator to his Christian faith more than twenty years ago, a man "who spoke to me about our obligations to love one another; to care for the sick and lift up the poor".
